Recession: Diaspora Bizman Blames Wrong Policies
A London-based Nigerian businessman, Jerry Wanodi, has said that the present economic challenge that Nigeria is faced with is traceable to wrong policies in governance.
He said that wrong body language coupled with wrong policies and bad governance are major issues that make an economy to go into recession.
Wanodi, who disclosed this to airport correspondents on his arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa on Thursday, noted that Nigeria as a nation has not adopted the culture of putting real experts in their places of expertise.
“It is in this country I usually see that a lawyer will be made to handle key ministries like power, housing and works where he is not very vast on. It is in Nigeria we play politics with the economy and real governance.
“What has a lawyer or non professional in a field got to do in the sector he or she does not have skills in. It means wrong policies and wrong body language will be in place.
“If it were in developed countries any appointment that does not reflect the expertise of the appointees will be rejected,” Wanodi stated.
For the economy to bounce back, the Diaspora business executive said that the Federal Government must take the right initiative to put in place the right economic team and experts that can handle the economy, devoid of political inclination.
He said people like Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, Prof. Pat Utomi among others should be part of such team, and commended the effort of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in raising the value of naira during his time as acting president.
