Ogoni/Andoni/Opobo Road To Be Ready In 18months
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike says the Ogoni, Andoni, Opobo Unity Road will be completed in 18months.
He made the revelation yesterday day during the flag off ceremony for the completion of the project started by ex-Governor Peter Odili.
Wike said the people of Opobo and Bori and Andoni communities should leave a sigh of relief even after the immediate past administration failed to complete the road after receiving huge federal allocations
Wike said, “ never again will anybody play politics with this road. This road must be completed in 18months.
According to him, both the Andoni and Opobo axis of the 42 kilometer road will be constructed simultaneously.
The Rivers State governor noted that the road is strategic, hence, it was conceived to link the three local government areas of Khana, Andoni and Opobo /Nkoro.
Recalling that the project was among those he listed during his campaigns to do, Wike added, “even if the whole resources of the State will be put into this project, we will do it. “
He directed the contractor, Rafael Construction Ltd to ensure they meet target date and ensure they engage host communities in the project warning that there will be no job variations.
The governor used the programme to solicit for the people’s vote during the 10th December rerun elections, reminding them that it’s only the Peoples Democratic Party that will change their fortunes and bring development.
On his part, the Commissioner for Works, Bathuel Harrison disclosed that the road stretches 42 kilometers and links three local government areas.
The commissioner said the project is strategic to the area as it will boost access and economic activities for the people in the area.
Also speaking, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Andoni Local Government Area, Kagbang Odin thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise to the people of the area.
He however sought for the construction of a market at the unity junction on the road to help boost commerce in the area.
