RSG Passionate About Sustainable Peace In Rivers -Banigo
The Rivers State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo has said that the present administration led by Governor Nyesom Wike was passionate about ensuring peace and security in all communities in the State.
Banigo stated this today while inaugurating the Eleme/Oyigbo Boundary Dispute Technical Committee and Tai/Oyigbo Boundary Dispute Technical Committee at Government House, Port Harcourt.
She noted that without peace in the various communities in the state, it would be difficult for government to embark on any meaningful development as well as attract investors.
“Without peace we cannot attract investors, embark on development projects, which is why we are working with all the stakeholders in bringing lasting peace and security to our state.”
The deputy governor advised the chairmen and members of the boundary committees to take their task seriously and come up with suggestions and recommendations that would bring about sustainable peace in the various communities that are engulf in boundary disputes in the state.
Also speaking, the Acting Secretary of the State Boundary Committee, Mr. Ikina Lucky Atangsi, said the technical committees were set up to find lasting solutions to the perennial boundary disputes between Eleme/Oyigbo and Tai/Oyigbo urging members to act in line with the terms of reference given to them.
Responding on behalf of members of the committees, the chairmen of Eleme/Oyigbo Boundary Dispute Technical Committee, Chief Silas Eneyo, and Tai/Oyigbo Boundary Dispute Technical Committee, Chief Fyneface Ihunwu, thanked the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve, and promised to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
The committees have two months within which to submit their reports.
