Residents Decry Rising Water Level On Community Road
Residents of Onuebum
Community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have appealed to the State Government to assist them tackle the rising level of water along the Ogbia road.
A cross section of residents who spoke with The Tide lamented that the rising level has caused disruptions for motorists plying the road, as the water has continued to rise.
A taxi driver, Mr. Kinsley Johnny, said the road was already in a terrible state before the flood, adding that the maintenance of the road was left to the youth who constantly sandfill it.
Also speaking, a senior staff of Federal University Otueke, Mr. Gboyega Ade lamented the tragedy encountered when plying the road to work, calling it a death trap other than a road.
He appealed to the State government to help assist in the repair and maintenance of the road, given that it was a major road leading to the homestead of the former President of Nigeria.
The Onuebum road that links with the Federal University Otuoke has been submerged by floodwaters, a reprise of the 2012 flood that submerged many parts of Nigeria.
A student of the Federal Univrsity Otuoke, Oluwanunmi Omosuwa said that there was an hike in the transportation fare as a result of the water.
She added that the school will soon be on session and the staff and students of Federal University Otuoke will find it difficult to ply that route if urgent action was not taken to mitigate this situation.
