C’River Clinches Multiple Sanitation Awards
Bekwarra and Obanliku
local government council areas of Cross River State have clinched the bulk of programme awards and recognition recently dished out by Concern Universal for its RUSHPIN Programme and CHISHPIN project.
While Bekwarra won the LGA with the highest number of persons living in open defecation-free (ODF) communities, LGA with the highest number of persons triggered, and community with the most improved latrine system at Ikeja New Layout, Obanliku clinched the awards for the LGA with the highest number of ODF communities, most number of Water and Sanitation (WASHCOM) trainees, highest number of Local Task Groups on Sanitation (LTGS), highest number of national and state verified communities, as well as the LGA with the highest utilized amount of funds.
Also in the award winning category is Cross River, which has the most number of visits by the State Task Group on Sanitation, Ijabor community of Bekwarra which become the first community to become completely ODF, and Basang ward of Obanliku as the first ward to become completely ODF.
In the CLTS champions category, paramount rulers of Obanliku and Yala, Utsu Cyprien Ashang and Ogamode Onah Ipuole respectively: vice chairmen of Bekwarra and Obanliku, Hons Cecilia Emeka and Josephine Ukpong respectively, were award winners.
For the highest number of non player actors and most innovative tap system, Logo local government of Benue stood tall, while their natural leaders Aondona Yaku and Pastor Gugu Lornenge, clinched awards in that category.
Presenting the awards at a 2-day State Level Review Meeting of RUSHPIN Programme and CHISHPIN Project held recently at the Channel View Hotel, Calabar, CU programme manager, Nanpet Chuktu, gave a run-down of criteria employed by his organization in arriving at their conclusion.
The workshop featured plans for declaring Bekwarra and Obanliku ODF, presentation of RUSHPIN programme and CHISHPIN project, action learning and presentation of agreed positions, as well as presentation of upcoming CU activities.
