Infrastructure: Communities Seek Govt’s Assistance
Indigenes of Owan East
Local Government Council of Edo State have appealed to the state government to construct roads and provide basic amenities for their communities.
They made the appeal during the inauguration of the Ivbiadaobi Unity Forum at Warrake Community in the council area.
Members of the newly inaugurated forum are sons and daughters of Erah, Ihievbe, Ivbiaro and Warrake Communities.
The chairman of the forum, Mr Abdulkarim Yusuf, addressing his members said the communities lacked good roads and basic amenities.
Yusuf said that roads connecting the communities to other villages had been completely neglected by the government.
“In the area of road construction, Ivbiadaobi clans have been completely neglected by the previous administrations.
“I appeal to the state government to give serious attention to the construction of Erah Road. A situation where one cannot access Erah is not too good.
“The abandoned Ihievbe-Ogbe Road is also of great concern to the forum, this is an important road linking many communities in the area,’’ he said.
The chairman lamented that lack of social amenities had affected the four communities, saying that the major boreholes constructed in the communities were yet to be completed.
“The sorry state of Ivhievbe and Erah Grammar Schools is beyond description.
“The condition of these schools is so appalling that Erah community decided to launch an appeal fund to rehabilitate the schools through communal effort.
“We call on the state government to complete the construction of the schools and the boreholes in the communities, especially, the one in Ebese-Ivbiaro’’ Yusuf said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum’s Board of Trustees, Mr Abu Lawani, had said the association was set up to provide a platform where
its members could discuss common issues affecting the communities.
Lawani said it was also to engage government on how to develop the area.
“This forum is a non-governmental, non-religious and non-partisan organisation. Our aim is to pursue the social, economic, and cultural well-beings of our people,’’ he said.
