Agency Wants Domestication Of WASH
The Rivers State Ru
ral Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) has called for the domestication of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in the rural areas.
This was part of the resolutions at a two day seminar organised by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in Port Harcourt. A release made available to newsmen also stressed the need for a mentoring and evaluation framework that will ensure that the function and overall management of the framework for the domestication is shared between the Rivers State Ministries of Special Duties and that of Water Resources and Rural Development.
“These ministries shall be responsible for the implementation of the Sector Monitor and Evaluation Framework, while the Ministry of Water Resources envisaged
It also listed the objective of the framework to the provision of information necessary to ensure that all investment planning remain within the result logical framework of these outcomes as well as ensure that activities on the result logical framework of the different institutions can be sum together and disaggregated at the community, LGA and state levels and is assigned to the National sector database.
Other objectives are; “To generate data on the sum of inputs, outputs and outcome of the WASH sector.
“To provide accurate information on processes and determine effectiveness and efficiency of all implementation activities in delivering planned results in the sector and to identify gaps with the aim of informing and planning to close such gaps in WASH sector.
Speaking with The Tide, the monitoring, planning and evaluation officer, Rivers State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA),Mr. Napoleon Adah said that the Agency will soon take campaign to the rural areas with a view to domesticating the progamme at the grassroots.
Mr. Adah urged for the support of the 23 Local Government Councils to ensure the success of the programme.
