Gunmen Kill Ekpeye Vigilante Leader, 15 Others
Panic has gripped residents of Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas, in Rivers State following the killing of Ekpeye vigilante group Chairman, Pius Ukachukwu by unknown gunmen.
The Tide learnt that the late Ukachukwu was ambushed by unknown gunmen on Ula Ahoada road at around 11pm last Saturday and shot dead.
The source also said that after killing the Ekpeye vigilante leader, the gunmen also struck at another Ekpeye Community, Ula Ukpata, where over 15 persons were allegedly killed.
Meanwhile, residents of both Ula Ahoada and Ula Ukpata are now running for their dear lives following the incident.
A resident of Ula Ukpata, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said that the community was completely empty as its inhabitants have fled to neighbouring communities for fear of further attacks.
He called on the state government to come to the aid of the people by ensuring that security agencies are drafted to the communities to maintain peace.
When The Tide visited Ahoada Divisional Police headquarters for confirmation, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Friday Adamu, was said to be out of town on an official assignment.
It would be recalled that, the slain Ekpeye vigilante leader had before his death, told The Tide in an interview that he was prepared to lay down his life to bring peace to Ekpeyeland.
