Stakeholders Call For Chairman’s Head
Following the disappointing and poor performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the last legislative rerun elections in Rivers State, stakeholders of the party have demanded the immediate resignation of the Rivers State Chairman of the party, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
The stakeholders, who made the demand at a meeting in Port Harcourt, urged the chairman to resign before the next state congress, stressing that he was not able to lead the party credibly.
At the meeting, which was attended by the defeated governorship candidate in last year’s elections, Dr Dakuku Peterside, candidates of the party in the state and House of Representatives elections, they expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the party, and called the chairman to resign.
The majority of the members at the meeting, accused the executive, especially the chairman of non-performance, alleging that he embezzled funds meant for the elections, which led to the poor performance of the party in the last legislative rerun elections in the state.
The party chairman was also accused of poor leadership style, which led to the party losing most of the seats in the last rerun election.
Sources at the meeting, hinted that the state party boss was part of the reasons the party performed poorly in the last elections.
The Tide gathered that the governorship candidate, Dr Dakuku Peterside, who spoke at the meeting, tried effortlessly to calm the aggrieved members but noted that it was time to allow the young ones to lead the party.
Attempts to contact the Public Relations Officer of the APC in Rivers State, Mr Chris Finebone, was not successful, as he refused to answer his calls or reply to SMS sent to his cellphone.
However, the Media Assistant to the Chairman, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said he was unaware of the development, having been out of town.
He promised to get back to our correspondent, but never did until press time.
