Sacked LG Chairmen Know Fate, June 6
The Appeal court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has reserved ruling on the application brought before it by the 22 sacked Local Government Council Chairmen elected under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) during the last administration in the state, seeking to be joined as parties in the matter bordering on the conduct of the 2015 Local Government elections, as well as praying the court to set aside the judgement of the Federal High Court, which nullified their election.
The Trail Judge , Justice T.N. Orji-Abadua, reserved the ruling after the parties had adopted their written addresses before the court at the resumed hearing on the matter, yesterday in Port Harcourt.
Orji-Abadua thanked the various Counsels in the matter for maturity and understanding displayed during the trail, adding that date for the judgement would be communicated to all the parties involved in the matter.
In a related development, the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed June 6th, 2016, for the adoption of written address by the All Progressives Congress (APC) the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the matter brought before it.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking to be joined as a party which sponsored the sacked 22 Local Government Chairmen during the May 2015 Local Government Council elections in the state.
The trial judge, Justice, T.N. Orji-Abadua, ruling on the application for extension of time, said the court was adjourning the matter to June to enable all the parties have enough time to serve each other.
She further ruled that the parties adopt their written addresses on the adjourned date, adding that the court would not enter further extension of time.
Later in an interview with journalists, Counsel representing the 22 sacked council chairmen and the All; Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Sabastine Hon (SAN), said he was satisfied with the court proceeding, adding that the long extension of time granted the respondent by the court would have no effect on the matter.
Also speaking, Counsel to INEC, Obi Abdulkarem (Esq), said that both matters could go on as they are related, adding that the APC as a party sought to be joined in the matter.
According to him, APC was not in the matter at the beginning of suit from the High Court, adding that the court has heard their application through their counsel.
He stated that the extension of the time as given by the court would have no negative effect on the matter, adding that all the parties have submitted themselves before the court.
