Bille, Bonny, Nembe Jetty Reconstruction, Long Over-due – Passengers

One of the 88 seated standard coaches for Abuja-Kaduna mass transit train services being offloaded from the ship at Apapa port in Lagos last Thursday.
A cross section of pas
sengers that travel from Port Harcourt to Bille, Bonny and Nembe via speedboats and others have barred their mind that the reconstruction of Jetty was long overdue.
The passengers in a chat with The Tide of the waterside along Creek Road in Port Harcourt, said the recent government promise has given them a new hope as the jetties have been a death trap.
According to them, the condition of the jetties especially during low tide had sent many people to the hospital.
They described the Governor’s intervention as very timely, as it would boost commercial activities, movement of people to the riverine communities as well as give them a sense of belonging.
Mrs Clara Bara-Hart in her reaction commended Governor Nyesom Wike, for the promise but enjoined him to mobilize contractors to the site so that the project will be completed within the specified period.
Also reacting, a student, Ephraim Kombo, said the casualties recorded at the jetty was unprecedented, as people, mostly elderly ones had fractures daily.
Kombo lamented that the reconstruction was long over-due as pervious governments only made verbal promises and nothing on ground, and lauded the Governor, for coming to their aid.
Telema Ogomote also said he was so excited when he heard that the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had promised to re-construct the jetty, which had been in a deplorable condition, and appealed for its immediate take-off, so that the commuters will have confidence in the present government.
Another passengers, Silas Otobotekere, described Governor Nyesom Wike, as an action governor who had given the state a facelift with the massive road construction, and expressed optimism that the jetty project will be completed as scheduled for the masses to feel the impact of democracy.
