PPP On Culture Underway In Delta
The Delta State
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Ernest Ogwezzy, says the private sector is willing to partner the State Government to harness the tourism potential in the state.
Ogwezzy told newsmen in Asaba on Sunday that the ministry had received many proposals from the private sector.
“The private sector has shown great interest in tourism in the state in view of the number of proposals I have received from them.
“We are equally considering most of the proposals submitted from the various organisations.
“Some of the organisations include Sound Core Media Limited, Edifosa Entertainment Organisation and Pan African Global Media Limited,’’ he said.
The commissioner said that the state government was collaborating with Kuungana African Television to market the tourist sites in the state.
Ogwezzy said that if well harnessed, the sector would boost the revenue of the state and create employment.
He, however, said that the private sector was already contributing to the development of the tourism sector of the state.
“This is evident in the number of hotels, restaurants and fast food outlets in the state. Many youths are gainfully employed in these places,” he said.
The commissioner said there were 15 tourism sites in the state, noting that some were owned by the Federal Government, some by the state government and others by the private sector.
He listed the sites as the Lander Brothers Anchorage, Ethiope River Source, the Turf, Falcorp Mangrove Park, Nana Living History Museum, Araya Bible Site, Nelson Mandela Garden and Demas Nwoko Villa.
Others are the Burial Palace of the Olu of Warri, Olona Ranch and Holiday Resort, Mount of Ned Nwoko Castle, Effurun Garden, Anchor/Slave Relic and National Museum and Monument Park.
