A Port Harcourt High Court presided over by Hon. Justice S.C.Amadi has adjourned ruling to August 20, 2015, in a suit filed by the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi challenging the power of the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike to set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry and the investigation of his administration.
In his submission, the counsel to the first defendant, M.S. Agu (Esq.) said, the suit should be dismissed for lack of merit.
Also, the second defendant, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, E.C. Aguma (Esq) who represented himself, argued that the instrument setting up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry did not contravene the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended or the Rivers State Law Cap 50.
He, therefore, called for the outright dismissal of the case before the court.
Other defence counsels present were: Den Wigwe (SAN) and Njemanze (SAN).
The respondents in the suit include the governor of Rivers State, the Attorney General of Rivers State, the chairman and members of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
