Association Lauds Wike, CP On Security

Prelate of Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche, presenting a souvenir to Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, during the former’s visit to Government House, Port Harcourt recently.
The President of Pillar of
Associations, Rivers State, Comrade Emeka Onyekwum, has commended the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, for the steps taken to curb cultism, kidnapping and other crime-related activities in the state.
Speaking to The Tide in an interview in Port Harcourt recently, Onyekwum expressed optimism that with the combined effort of the government and the police, the insecurity that was threatening the people of the state would be brought under control.
Urging them to do more on security, the associations boss said that the issue had been worrisome, and advised the people to cooperate and support the effort.
He lauded Wike for clearing the backlog of salary arrears owed civil servants and pensioners as well as the progress being witnessed in the area of infrastructural development, describing them as a sign of good governance.
Onyekwum, noted that the zero potholes scheme of the state government was paying off and that it would help to build the economy and alleviate the suffering of the people as well as facilitate vehicular movement.
On the recently refurbished Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries, he said, “the rate of petroleum products importation will reduce and cabals will be checked, especially now that President Mohammadu Buhari is reforming the NNPC and the oil and gas sectors.”
According to him, if properly managed, the three functional refineries of the country would improve the supply of petroleum products, saying “I don’t see any reason we produce crude oil and do not have petroleum products. The two refineries, Port Harcourt and Warri will help and I wish we could buy one litre of fuel at N50.00 now that the refineries are working.” He urged the authorities of the refineries to apply the principles of maintenance culture to ensure sustainability while calling on the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company to start the process of establishing another plant within the Niger Delta region so as to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
