Delta Youth Call For Rural Road Construction
The Adonte community
youth in Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta have appealed to the state government to construct the Adonte-Ukwuoba-Abah-Unor road to connect them to other parts of the state.
Spokesperson of the youth, Mr Chuks Okpunor, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen at Adonte, recently.
Okpunor said the road had been in bad condition over the years and had denied the people easy access to other parts of the state.
He said the road linking the various communities in Enuani clan also needed urgent attention to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
According to him, the affected communities appealed severally without success to the local government and past administrations in the state to fix the road.
He added that the road was of great economic importance to the people, whom he described as commercial farmers.
He said “the link road is very strategic to our people and other communities around the area for easy movement of people and farm produce to the urban centres.
“The condition of the road has worsened due to the lack of attention by past governments in the state.
“We are appealing to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa to help our people by constructing the road once and for all.’’
The spokesman said that the deplorable condition of the road over the years had resulted in high cost of transportation in the area.
He noted that “every year, especially during the rainy season, our people experience great economic losses due to inability to get their farm produce to the larger markets in urban areas.
“The road, when constructed, will help to boost socio-economic activities in Adonte and the surrounding communities of Egbudu-Akah, Ukwuoba and Aba-Unor.
Meanwhile, an investigation by our correspondent found that the road was listed for construction in the 2012/2013 budget of the state but the project was not executed.
