Ajimobi Calls For Human Capital Development
Governor Abiola Ajimobi
of Oyo State has called for human capital development in the country in order to enhance its progress.
Ajimobi made the call when the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, paid him a courtesy visit in Ibadan on Friday.
“I am a fervent believer in the building of human capital development, because it is not the number but intelligence that leads to the development of a nation,” he said.
The governor, who cited the U.S., China and Japan as the leading developed nations of the world, said they achieved their status because they placed premium on human capital development.
Ajimobi, who recalled that late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Premier of the then Western Region, invested in education and infrastructure, added that while some of the infrastructure decayed, his education legacy endured.
He applauded the University of Ibadan management for making the state the intellectual capital of Nigeria, and promised continued repositioning of the state for development.
“In social infrastructure, we are talking of education, and education is knowledge, while skills lead to ability.’’
Earlier, Adewole had told Ajimobi that the institution’s management came to congratulate him on his re-election, and applauded him for his remarkable achievements during his first tenure.
“We want to add to your second term agenda and to support you in the effort to rebuild Oyo State.
“We want to see you continuing to rebuild Ibadan and other cities in Oyo State,” Adewole said.
The vice-chancellor called on Ajimobi to pay more attention to agriculture as a way of creating more jobs.
“University of Ibadan will partner with you to develop agriculture, as a way of providing food security for the masses”.
He also implored the governor to create an Innovation Park, where those who are creative would converge to showcase their intellect, with a view to creating employment.
Adewole said this would prevent them from concentrating on looking for white-collar jobs.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the governor by the management of the university.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
