Amaechi’s Tenure Ends With Pageantry …The Tide Rotary Machine, NUJ Building For Commissioning
As the life span of the present administration gradually comes to an end on May 29, 2015 a thanksgiving Mass on 27th of May, inauguration of projects and public lectures as well as film premier on the Dynamics of Change, have been slated to mark the 50th Birthday ceremony of the Rivers State Governor and Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.
A statement issued by the Committee of Friends of the Governor and signed by its Secretary, Mr. Chuma Chinye, stated that the President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) will grace most of the events, which will attract several dignitaries, including governors, diplomats and civil society organizations.
Chinye, in the statement made available to The Tide, noted that the birthday anniversary, which is sponsored by friends of the governor, started with a book launch in Lagos a forthnight ago, will also feature the premier of a film on the “Dynamics of Change”, featuring the governor’s landmark activities and achievements in office at the Silverbird Galleria, Abuja.
According to the statement, “The ceremonies are befitting tributes to selfless and committed service of the governor not only to Rivers State but the Nigerian nation”.
It further listed projects to be commissioned as the Port Harcourt-Owerri expressway, the Ubima fish farm, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex, the Model Secondary School in Tai as well as the Greater Port Harcourt City Infrastructure.
The Rotary machine was ordered for in 2013, manufactured to specification and delivered to the Corporation early December last year while test running started two weeks ago.
Managing Partner of Images and Media Limited, the contractor handling the project, Chituga Clement Chuku, as at Saturday told our correspondent that 99 per cent work had been actualized in the facility.
Chuku remarked that with proper maintenance and competent operators, the machine has the capacity to last very long, as it is of high quality, adding that it is most suitable for a publishing house of national coverage.
Similarly, the NUJ Press Centre was captured in the 2012 Rivers Government budget while the contract for the project was awarded to Elohim Consult Limited, with the state Governor, Chibuike Amaechi performing the ground breaking ceremony on March 27, 2014.
The facility is expected to house the State NUJ, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria SWAN) and the Zonal Secretariat of NUJ for the South South with fully-furnished offices.
It also has three event halls, a resource centre, guest rooms, restaurant and a security post, with a 350 KVA and over 250 KVA transformers to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the best NUJ Press Centre in the country.
