No Secret Employment In Rivers Civil Service -Commission
The Rivers State Civil Service Commission has described as false, allegations that it was secretly employing to create financial burden for the incoming administration.
Chairman of the Commission, Sir Ngo Martyns-Yellowe, who said this in a press briefing in his office in Port Harcourt, said that the commission was not aware of any secret employment into the civil service as every employment was guided by rules and regulations.
Martyns-Yellowe, explained that before employment is made into the civil service, the state governor must give approval after which vacancies would be declared, adding that at the moment, such situation does not exist.
He further said that the last recruitment into the civil service as far as the commission was concerned was in 2013, stressing that between 2013 and now, no employment had been done by the commission.
“The last employment was in August, 2013, and since then, there had been no other employment.
“The commission is still waiting for approval from the governor”, he said.
The chairman, who admitted the existence of vacancies in the ministries, department and agencies, however, said that the commission has not received the approval to embark on any recruitment exercise.
He described the allegation as cheap blackmail deliberately meant to tarnish the image of the commission and the state government, and urged the people to discountenance it.
Martyns-Yellowe also stressed the need for members of the press to always cross -check their facts before publication, stressing that time has come for members of the press to desist from being turned into propaganda agents with the view to peddling falsehood in the state.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has in a statement accused the commission of carrying out secret employment with a view to creating financial burden for the in-coming administration.
