New CTC Members Ready For Swearing-In
Calm returned to Government House Port Harcourt
at the weekend following news of release of Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, a compere for Governor Chibuike Amaechi, who was abducted at an APC Ward rally at Kaani I in Khana Local Government Area, by unknown gunmen.
The top compere in Government House had been in the hands of his abductors until the early morning of Saturday when he was set free. He is now recuperating in a health facility after the ordeal in the hands of the hoodlums.
Recall that earlier in the week, Governor Amaechi had blamed political detractors for the kidnap of Mr. Ndigbara who with Celestine Akpobari were able to convert over 5,000 members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The Governor pointed out that there was nothing wrong or extraordinary in what his aide did since the country was in a political setting where the electorates are being wooed from one political party to another.
“Of course, Freddy Ndigbara’s abduction is politically-motivated. We are aware that Ndigbara, in league with Celestine Akpobari, was able to convert 5,000 PDP members to APC.”
“There is nothing wrong or extraordinary in what he did, because we are in a political setting where the in thing now is to win political converts. Winning new converts was what Freddie did before he was kidnapped,” the governor said.
The governor however appealed to the captors of his aide to release him unconditionally, insisting that Ndigbara meant no harm to anybody as an APC member.
As a follow-up to series of meetings of APC stakeholders in Government House, over the new Caretaker Committee members in the 21 local government areas, the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced and concluded screening of the new CTC members, last week.
Some of the CTC members who are yet to be sworn-in by Governor Amaechi spoke to Government House correspondents on their mission and promised to ensure peaceful polls in their domain.
Incoming CTC Chairmen of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Lovday M. Jaja, said he would focus on empowering the people and urged citizens of the area, especially members of APC to remain peaceful even in the face of provocation.
On his part, re-appointed CTC chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Nnamdi Wuche, promised to provide peaceful atmosphere ahead of the elections, this month. He promised to work with security agencies to ensure violence-free polls.
OIn the delay over the commencement of the Mile 1 Phase II Market, he revealed that contract had been signed and promised that work would soon commence on site.
Similarly, Fenibo jack of Akuku-Toru promised to strengthen security in the riverine local government area, “we are going to surpass achievements of the previous administration,” he added.
The CTC members are expected to be sworn-in this week by Governor Amaechi.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
