Body Urges FG To Patronise Professionals
The Federal Govern
ment has been called upon to always patronize professional bodies in its policies formulation and implementation.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, recently the National President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Mr Foluso Fasoto said its members are willing to offer professional advice to the federal government if given the opportunity to do so.
Fasoto said the body as an umbrella, professional body in Nigeria gives direction and make policy decisions as well as review and ratify professionals’ position on issues of national development.
He said before now, when policy matters of national importance were to be made, government either neglects to seek opinion from the appropriate professional bodies rather than the government turn to a few individuals whose views may not necessarily reflect those of the professionals or accredited institutes and associations.
The APBN boss said the soundness of a good policy depends largely on the quality and integrity of the advice on which it is formulated and implemented, stressing that the association has the mandate to make input into the strategic activities and planning of government as bordered on national development.
He stressed further that the association’s mandate is to coordinate, support and serve as mouthpiece for all professional bodies in the country and to proffer well thought-out strategic positions to government on issues of national importance.
APBN as an umbrella body of all professional bodies in Nigeria was created to galvanise opinions and positions of registered and recognized professional institutes and associations in Nigeria, which can be called upon by government to proffer suggestions and solutions to pressing national issues.
