No Room For Unserious Students In RSUST – VC
In pursuit of global stan
dard in tertiary education, management of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), has hinted that any student not worth his/her salt would have no place in the institution.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Barineme Beke Fakae, who gave the hint during the school’s 33rd Matriculation ceremony, midweek, noted that in keeping with the standard, students who are unable to meet the set standard are rusticated.
Consequently, he said 366 first year students out of a total of 14,948, constituting 2.45%, have been rusticated at the end of the 2013/2014 academic session.
It is sad to announce that 366 students, out of a total population of 14,948 that registered last session, who would not make the mandatory Cumulative Grade Points Average (CUPA) of 1.00 were withdrawn from the university at the end of last session due to academic failure (WAF)”, Prof Fakae said.
According to the Vice Chancellor, it is in line with the schools policy that in RSUST today, you must be good to come in good to stay in and good to graduate.
He continued that, “having known that training is local, but competition is global, the university is not leaving any stone unturned in the pursuit of the vision of its founding fathers, hence the quest for a better means of curriculum delivery.
It is for the same reason, he explained that, “Best first year students” for the 2013/2014 academic session in the seven faculties of the university were also rewarded with a laptop computer each, with the law faculty producing two students.
A total of 3,322 students matriculated. This number he said constitutes 25.74% of a total of 12,904 applicants to the university who scored above the post university tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) cut off of 180%.
It will be recalled that RSUST rusticated 625 students last year for the same reason.
