Rotary International Commissions Water Project In Rivers
The Rotary International
District 9140, has commissioned a N1.6 million water project for Egbeda community in the Emohua Local Government Area.
The 9000 litre capacity water project, was donated to the community by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt central.
The District Governor, HRM Rotarian Noble Eshementan, who performed the ceremony, said that the gesture was inline with the club’s commitment towards alleviating the sufferings of rural communities in the District.
He said that the project will helped to check water borne diseases in the community as well as check the scarcity of water in the area.
He commended the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt central for choosing Egbeda community for the project and charged indigenes of the community to see it as their own by protecting it from vandals.
Also speaking the president Rotary club of Port Harcourt Central, Rotarian Emeka Anyaso said that the project was conceived by the club to sustain the life health and the environment of the people.
Rotarian Anyaso said that because of the increasing rate of waterborne diseases in communities across the state, the club made the provision of potable water a focal point in all the rotary years.
He said that the club would also extend the gesture to other communities in need of water and charged the people of Egbeda to see the project as one of their own by preventing it from being vandalised.
Earlier the secretary of Egbeda council of chiefs Chief Nnanna said the project will check the frequent visit to hospitals by the people as a result of waterborne diseases.
Chief Nnanna who represented the Nyenweli of Egbeda / Ubimini HRH Christopher Didia commended the club for choosing the community for the project.
