VC Charges Parents On Child Upbringing
The Vice Chancellor
of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Profession Rosemund Green-Osahogulu, has urged parents and guardians to instill the virtues of hardwork and contentment in their children and wards in order to have the right attitudinal changes.
In a document made available to The Tide, Professor Green-Osahogulu noted that good planning by parents and guardians for their children and wards ultimately affect them.
She also called on parents to plan for the number of children they could conveniently have and cater for, saying that “government alone cannot provide for everybody.”
Professor Green-Osahogulu noted that though over-population of the country has constituted major challenge, “if managed properly, the nation would not have large number of uneducated youths.”
The Vice Chancellor decried the get-rich-quick syndrome among youths of today, and called for a re-orientation of value system to put them (youth) in good stead to enable them effectively handle situations they find themselves.
The Professor of Science Education lauded youths involved in the entertainment industry, such as music, Nollywood and what is widely called “stand-up comedy”.
According to her, such youths “have projected the image of the country positively, and provided entertainment for the teeming population.”
One way for them (youths) to avoid going astray from societally accepted behavior, she noted is for them to beware of such vices as cultism, militancy, kidnapping and robbery, noting that “these vices are detrimental to youth well-being.
She also pleaded with parents to resist the temptation of encouraging their children and wards to be involved in vices such as examination malpractices, while commending the students for comporting themselves.
