Butchers Promise To Make Trans Amadi Abattoir Cleanest
The Nigerian Butchers
Association Trans/Amadi Abattoir has said that it remains committed to ensuring that the abattoir remains the cleanest in the State.
An elder of the association, Alhaji Hassan Yakubu who said this while briefing officials from the Rivers State Ministry of Environment during last month’s environmental sanitation exercise said the use of tyres at the abattoir in the roasting of meat has also been banned.
Elder Yakubu said that the association has embarked on series of awareness programmes to ensure cleanliness in the abattoir, stressing that this situation is being reflected in the general cleanliness, of the area.
He also said that butchers in the abattoir are being encouraged to use firewood in roasting meat, stressing that no tyre is being used in the abattoir.
Alhaji Yakubu thanked the Rivers State Government for its concern towards the state of the abattoir and assured of the Association’s readiness to support the government effort in ensuring high level sanitation in the area.
Earlier, the Director, Environment Health and Safety, Rivers State Ministry of Environment, Dr. Ugochukwu Mmegbu had warned them against dirty environment to check the outbreak of diseases in the area.
Dr. Mmegbu also warned against leaving meat uncovered, noting that such act is capable of attracting diseases.
He said that the recent outbreak of Ebola virus and other diseases should keep everyone on his toes towards ensuring a clean environment.
“The meeting is to tell you to keep your surrounding clean”, he said.
