Rotary Club Lays Foundation For Toilet, Borehole

The Rotary Club of
Port Harcourt, District 9140 has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a block of six rooms toilet facilities and a water borehole with over head tank at Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls Secondary School (ACMGS) Elelenwo.
The project is part of the matching project No 78911 between the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills R1 District 5280 and Rotary foundation.
President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt District 9140, Rotarian Frank Eni said that the project which started under the 2012/2013 Rotary year was initiated during an international convention in the United States of America.
Rotarian Eni said that the project was part of the effort of the Rotary Club international to promote girl child education in Nigeria.
“This project is a three-in-one project consisting of a block of six toilets borehole with over head tank and a generating set to ensure that the toilets functions at all times and in neat conditions,” he said.
He said that the club was identified six focus areas with the aims of maximizing Rotary’s Local and global impact as well as acknowledged each community’s unique needs.
Also speaking, the Assistant Governor, District 9140 Dr (Mrs) Georgiana Ngeri-Nwagha said that the project is being executed in community schools that lack toilet and water facility.
Dr (Mrs) Nwagha said that the proposal was made in one of her trips in the United States during a Rotary International Conventions she however, said due to logistics the project was delayed and charged the school to ensure proper utilisation of the facilities.
Earlier in her address, the principal of the school, Mrs Chinyere U. Ordu described the project as a welcome development as it would go a long way in addressing the hygiene/sanitation needs of the school.
