RSG Empowers Women, Youth With Hi-Tech Equipment
The Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has urged beneficiaries of the Cottage, Micro, Small and Medium enterprises equipment distributed by the State government through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to put them into judicious use for the growth of their businesses.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, said that beneficiaries from the local governments were carefully selected to benefit from the programme because of their commitment to the development of the grassroots.
While thanking the Ministry for making the programme a reality, Ikuru said the gesture was a positive departure from the past when rice and beans were shared to the rural people.
“Government of APC is not about sharing money and rice but out to empower the youths of the state”, he said.
The deputy governor also advised the beneficiaries to be diligent in the use of the equipment even as he advised against the sale of the items.
Earlier, the state Commissioner For Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chuma Chinye, in his address, had said the State governor designed the programme to touch the lives of women and youths which will in turn benefit the whole family and the state.
He explained that the use of ballot system in the distribution was to ensure transparency and fairness in the programme.
The process entailed the picking of ballot balls by five representatives from each of the 13 local governments represented.
The event also had in attendance the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dickson Umunakwe and Chairman, House Committee on Commerce and Industry, Ikechukwu Nwaogu.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
