Ocean Surge Threatens Bayelsa Community
The continuous
surge in the ocean waters has put the continuous existence of Koluama, a Bayelsa Community under threat.
The observation was made by official of the Environmental Right Action (ERA) and Friends of the Earth, Mr. Morris Alagoa while conducting newsmen round the community.
Mr. Alagoa said that the condition of the community at the moment needs a collective efforts by all stakeholders to tackle.
He said that both the federal and Bayelsa State Governments as well as the various oil companies operating in the area must jointly work together to tackle the menace of ocean surge in the area.
According to him, some parts of the community has already been submerged by water, noting that now the people live in fear.
“There is the urgent need for the governments to come to the aid of the community by constructing shore protection and embarkment round Koluama” he said.
The report monitored from local television station in Port Harcourt also show footages of some islands in the area submerged by water some of the inhabitants complained of negligence by some multinational companies particularly the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).
