The Tide Robbery Attack: RSG To Reward Family Of Slain Policeman
The Rivers State Government is to reward the family of the Mobile Police Officer who lost his life during a gun battle with armed robbers who attacked the Rivers State Newspaper |Corporation July 14, 2014.
Similarly, the Rivers State Police Command is to bestow the gallant Police Officer, a posthumous award of best officer of the month.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari told the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin during a visit in his office; that the Rivers State Government has a standing policy of rewarding Police Officers who died in line of duty.
Semenitari, who was accompanied on the visit by the General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo and other Management Staff, said that the deceased, will continue to be remembered for this sacrifice not only by staff of the Corporation but also by Rivers State Government.
She urged the command to accept the condolences of the government and people of Rivers State over the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command is to award the dead Police Officer a posthumous Award as best Officer of the month.
The Commissioner, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin said that the award is to encourage other officers to put in their best in the service of the nation.
Ogunsakin also said that the Command was putting in place modalities to ensure prompt response to distress calls by the people.
He thanked the Commissioner and the management of the Corporation for the visit assuring that the Police will continue to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo, thanked the Police Commissioner for its support, and stressed the need for a permanent Police presence in the area to check the rate of criminal activities in the area.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
