The National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA) said yesterday that it would partner with the Kebbi State Government on solid waste management.
The Coordinator of the agency in the state, Malam Haliru Muhammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi that the partnership would ensure waste recycling and environmental protection.
Muhammad said that the agency would support the state to identify dump sites in the state capital and other urban centres, to ensure hygienic environment.
He said that the agency would encourage stakeholders to intensify awareness on proper refuse disposal and sewage clearance methods.
He identified other areas that would receive attention to include clearing of drains to prevent flood, recycling of polythene materials, to reduce environmental pollution, flood and soil degradation.
Muhammad called on local government councils to involve youths in environmental protection activities,as a way of employment generation.
He commended the stateor introducing the monthly environmental sanitation programme and gave an assurance that the agency would continue to maintain a cordial relationship on environmental protection.
