Safety Expert Decries Use Of Rickety Cars
A health, safety and
environment expert in Rivers State, Engr Joseph Otene Ejeh, has decried the high number of transporters using old and rickety vehicles on the roads.
Ejeh made this observation while speaking as guest speaker at a two-day workshop organized by Rivers Port in Port Harcourt, recently.
He said for the state and the country at large to record accident-free society, priority should be given to safety consciousness on our roads.
According to him, vehicles being used by some transport owners are appalling and embarrassing to the society and called on the relevant authorities to take appropriate action without minding whose ox is gored.
Ejeh, who is of the health, safety and environment (HSE) Department of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Rivers Port, argued that such rickety and old vehicles are no longer road worthy and an eye-sore, which ought to be checked in order to save lives of the commuters.
The expert also appealed to owners of transport to scrap off such old and rickety vehicles and replace them with new tracks and vehicles to achieve safe driving, as most of such vehicles broke down on the roads and caused accidents and traffic gridlock.
