Group Urges Total E&P To Employ Egi Youth
The President of Egi
Youth Federation (EYF), Comrade Kelechi Duke, has urged the management of Total E & P Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) to expedite action in giving full employment to some Egi sons who have been screened but yet to be employed.
He made the call in a quarterly meeting between the company and Egi youths at Sasun Hotel & Resort in Port Harcourt recently.
The meeting which lasted for several hours, had in attendance, the Deputy General Manager, Community Relations, Evang. Izu Iduoku, Mr Charles Edward, Deputy General Manager, Community Affairs, Mr Goodnews Mbonu, Manager Community Affairs and the immediate past president of EYF, Comrade Alfred Akola Umah and other EYF excos.
Comrade Duke, while thanking TEPNG for engaging youths from the area in discussion noted that “it is only through dialogue that both parties can chart the way forward”.
He, however, decried “the delay in scholarship payment to Egi indigenes, non-compliance of catering companies in OML 58 and to the Service Labour Agreement (SLA), the slow pace of work at the Egi Youth Development Centre, deprivation of Egi skilled workers of their full salary in relation to the SLA by OML 58 contractors, including the back-log in Egi MoU employment quota and other disturbing issues”.
He particularly frowned at the disparity in salaries between Genesis and Courdeau Catering companies, adding that if the situation was not addressed, it might lead to crisis.
Responding, Community Affairs, TEPNG) Mr Charles Edward, (DGM), promised to dedicate his time and energy to the development of Egi Communities.
According to him, “Time is valuable to all of us, I will use my time and energy for the community people, I will use my time to study and understanding why the back-log, why the high level of unemployment in Egi. I will use my time for youth development, for projects that are built but not well managed .
We have to forget about the past. We have started tackling the problems again.
EYF cannot do it alone, we have to work together to improve the situation of things, we cannot do it overnight, it is a daily fight. I have the mind set to help you and change things for good”, he said.
On the back-log of employment, Mr Edward assured that all those who had passed the screening test would be leaving for training soon.
