NISCN Charges Workers On Safety
The need for safe work
ing environment, handling and maintenance of equipment for safety among the workforce has again been stressed.
The Chairman of the National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN), Rivers State chapter, Mr Akhigbe Cletus, made the assertion during a two-day workshop organised by the Council and Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity (Factory Inspection Department), held in Port Harcourt, recently.
Akhigbe said the workshop had brought to focus the need for the workforce to have full knowledge of the industry, pointing out that workers should know their rights, perform their duties effectively with safety consciousness and maintain safe working environment always.
He lamented over the painful accidents and incidents prevailing in the industries, which had impacted negatively in the economy, and expressed dismay that most businesses failed due to lack of safety consciousness, enjoining all to embrace safety as their watchword.
The council boss also reiterated the need for training and retraining of the workforce in order to increase their capacity and improvement in line with international best practices.
