Group Canvasses True Federalism At Confab
Indigenes of Akwa Ibom
and Cross River State residents in Rivers State, operating under the aegis of Akwa Cross Progressive Union have called for restructuring of Nigeria on the basis of true federalism.
President of the organisation, Comrade Emmnauel Inyang made the call in Port Harcourt, while speaking with newsmen shortly after his election to serve a second tenure in office.
Comrade Inyang, said the fundamental objective of the National Conference should be to address the imbalances in the Nigerian federation, and resolve issues such as minority question, resource control, revenue allocation among others.
He pointed out that only a Sovereign National Conference, where Nigerians are given the opportunities to discuss and guarantee the democratic and economic liberties of the citizens.
Comrade Inyang also expressed fears over the selection process of participants, for the conference stating that it should be apolitical and truly representative of the different component units that form the state.
Commenting on the prospect of the Akwa/Cross Union, Comrade Inyang said the body was poised to work with other ethnic and interest groups to promote peace and development in the society.
He called for caution in the handling of political crisis in different parts of the country, especially Rivers State and assured that he will lead the organisation to a greater height.
