The Tide, Others Bag Peace Award
The Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, (RSNC) publishers of The Tide group of Newspapers was among media establishments and corporate organizations, honoured by the Association of Justices of Peace in Rivers State at the 4th Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the body held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Justice in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday.
Presenting the award, to the Acting group News Editor of The Tide, Dr. Alpheaus Paul-Worika, who represented the media outfit, the Chairman of the Association, Deacon, Geofrey Bereiweriso, said The Tide bagged the award of peace building partner, because of its commitment to high ethnical conducts and objectivity in its professional duties.
He pointed out that the honour was also in recognition of The Tide’s commitment to the promotion of peace and development in Rivers State and Nigeria in general.
Other media organizations honoured at the event were Radio Rivers, Rivers State Television, Nigeria Television Authority and Silverbird Communications.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Evangelist G.H. Osarollor, a former Commissioner in the old Rivers State urged members of the association to live up to peaceful co-existence in the society.
Osarallor charged the Association to be conscientious in their mediating role to engender lasting peace in the society.
Presenting a paper on ‘Deepening the peace to Engender healthy Relationships” the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, described the role of Justices of Peace as pivotal to the sustenance of peace in the society.
Mbu who was represented by Henry Njoku (CSP) called for a stronger relationship between the Justices of Peace and the Police in the discharge of their duties.
The Rivers Police boss also assured the commitment of the Police in the maintenance of peace and internal security in Rivers State.
