Anglican Church Raises N20m For Projects
About N20 million has
been realised at the fund raising of the Diocese of Okrika Anglican Communion, with the highest donation of N10 million by the Chairman of the Fund-raising Dinner, Engr Gesi Asamaowei.
The event which took place at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt was part of the activities marking the 10th anniversary of the Diocese.
Speaking at the fund-raising dinner, Chief Nemi Adoki who is also the Chairman of the Anniversary planning committee said that the Diocese of Okrika would want to make much progress in the area of spirituality.
He said that the Diocese was in need of funds for execution of vital projects such as a retreat centre at Bolo.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Barrister Tammy Williams attributed the prevailing peace in the area to the activities of the Diocese.
Barrister Williams said that the evangelical activities of the Church had made many Okrikans to know God, a situation that had led to peace in the area.
He particularly commended the Diocese for the retreat centre at Bolo which would help the council in several of its activities.
In his exhortation on the theme: “The Ever Faithful God”, Engr Francis Nemieboko said that missionary activities required funds for success.
According to him, pastors in the Diocese need training and re-training to equip them for the challenges of evangelism.
He enumerated the advantages of giving to God as “drawing one closer to God, strengthening one’s faith as well as making one invest for eternity”, and commended the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt Rev. Tubokosimie Abere for his excellent programmes for the Diocese.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr Gesi Asamaowei who was represented by Edward Orupabo congratulated the Diocese on its 10th anniversary and described the achievements within the period as the manvellous work of God.
