ALSCON Executes N23m Water Projects In A’Ibom
The Management of
Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) says the company has executed N23.25 million water projects in Ikot Abasi local government area of Akwa Ibom.
The company’s Director of Public/Government Relations, Mrs Tatyana Smirnova, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Ikot Abasi.
She said that the amount was used in executing 15 water projects in different communities in the local government area.
“We have executed 15 water projects in Ikot Abasi villages to provide clean and portable water which amounted to N23.25 million,’’ Smirnova said.
The director said that no fewer than 10,000 people had benefited from the water projects.
She also told newsmen that the company had embarked on sale of obsolete assets in order to get additional revenue for funding of other projects in the company.
“The Management of ALSCON takes the steps to look for additional funding by means of sale of scrap, non liquid assets, faulty and inactive equipment as well as the parts,’’ she said.
The director said further that the exercise was to decongest the company’s premises.
She said that the company was building a gas-fired power plant with a capacity to generate 540 megawatts of electricity.
Smirnova explained that the amount of electricity was more than the power needs of the Smelter, pointing out that the excess of 360 megawatts would be evacuated to the national grid.
“When the project is completed, the ALSCON Power plant can evacuate the 360 excess MW of generated power into the national grid.
“If the company is faced with disruption in its gas supply, the plant can obtain emergency power supply from the grid to sustain its production,’’ she said.
