CRFFN, NAN To Launder Nigeria’s Image
The Council for the Regu
lation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) says it will partner with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to portray Nigeria’s image abroad.
The council’s Registrar, Mr. Mike Jukwe, made this known when he visited NAN in Abuja yesterday.
Jukwe said there was need for a change in how Nigerians were perceived abroad, and pointed out that the mass media had a lot to do in telling the world about the positive side of Nigeria.
“Good things are happening in Nigeria. It is a good thing that NAN is telling the world about our people.
“The CRFFN needs to cooperate with NAN in order to continue to tell the world about our country to promote a good international image.
“Deeper relationship between NAN and CRFFN will help to further change the perception of Nigerians outside and this will make them to put the government in a better light,’’ he said.
He called on Nigerians to give NAN all the needed support because of its serious role of telling the world about Nigeria.
He commended the Acting Managing Director of NAN, Mr Jide Adebayo, for steps taken so far to develop the agency.
Earlier, Adebayo decried the aggressive commercialisation of the mass media, adding that it ought to be more of social service.
He said that the commercialisation of newspapers had weakened the purchasing power of Nigerians.
Adebayo said this had made it impossible for Nigerians to buy newspapers because of the harsh economic environment.
He said the development also led to reduction in patronage of the dailies, with about 35 of them folding up in the last four years.
Adebayo said NAN would publicise the activities of CRFFN.
