The Delta State Police Com
mand said last Monday in Asaba that it arrested four suspected kidnappers and two drug traffickers operating in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Lucky Uyabame, said that the four suspected kidnappers allegedly attempted to abduct a Lebanese, Mr Nader Sade.
Uyabame said that the suspects had sent a short message service (sms) to the Lebanese, requesting payment of N600,000 into a First Bank account in Warri, or be kidnapped.
He said that the Warri-based businessman alerted the police about the threat and was advised to pay the amount into the account.
The PPRO said that following the monitoring and tracking of the account, the suspects were arrested, adding that investigations on the fourth suspect was still in progress.
He said that the suspected drug traffickers (names withheld) were arrested over alleged possession of 160 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police spokesman said that the substances were loaded in a blue Faka truck with registration number AKD 614 XD, on Agbor-Warri road.
He said the suspects would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation, while the suspected kidnappers would be charged to court after investigation.
