Disasters: Cross River Urges Collaboration
The Director-General,
Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Vincent Aquah has called on stakeholders to collaborate in the reduction of climate change to ensure the reduction of its effect on the populace.
The DG, who was speaking recently in Boki, while distributing relief materials to wind storm disaster victims said, “the phenomenon was weighing down governments developmental advancement” and there was need for all to take part in reducing the effect.
He said disasters of the likes of windstorm, flooding, landslide and erosion among others have assumed an elarming rate.
He said the development was affecting the socio-economic landscape of the people and government of the state.
Mr. Aquah revealed that government was spending millions of naira in carrying out disaster management activities even as he said the trend was over bearing on the financial nerve of the state.
Aquah, who was represented by the procurement officer of the Agency, Mr. Pius Udeh, praised SEMA for strategies put in place to bring the disaster under control.
Receiving the relief materials, the Chairman of Boki Local Government council, Chief Jonas Otu expressed gratitude to the Cross Rivers State Government for their concern.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Francis Ogbidi who thanked the agency for its prompt action said the materials would go a long way in ameliorating the effect of the storm on the victims.
