1,000 Youth Get Leadership Training
About 1000 youths have
benefited from the just concluded Rotary youth leadership training organised at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt last Thursday.
The four-day training programme organised under the theme: ‘Our Vision for the Youths, now more than ever’ had in attendance 100 young people from the 11 states making up the District 9140 of Rotary International.
According to the district 9140, Governor Charles Onianwa, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award “is a leadership development and training programme run by Rotary and targeted at secondary school students, university students and young professionals.
The District Governor, charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training to develop their inherent potentials and motivate themselves towards achieving greatness in life.
He said the 2013/2014 Rotary year stipulates full partnership and collaboration with related organisations to promote youth development initiation to address the common social ills associated with youths.
Onianwa said the leadership training focused on leadership fundamental ethics, communication skills, problem solving and conflict management, community and global citizenship.
He emphasised that one of the responsibilities is to seek out and develop the talent of those persons, who for various reasons, have never had a real chance to demonstrate their ability.”
In his remark, the chairman of Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Tony Eteng, said the district was privileged to host this year’s edition of the youth leadership training which is intended to yield positive impact on the lives of the youths as better leaders of tomorrow.
Some of the participants who spoke with our correspondent, thanked Rotary for organising the training programme, and assured that they will make judicious use of the programme.
