She also explained that the priority given to the education sector by the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been yielding recurring successes and positive results among students in the public schools owned by government in the state.
“It was just last month, our students represented the country in the Pan African Mathematics Competition in Abuja and we came out with flying colours.
It is also, few months ago, we had students who went to the United Nations from our public schools to represent the state, and they equally came out with flying colours.
We cannot stand here without saying thank God and to also say thank God for giving us Governor Amaechi, because without him, the young students here wouldn’t have known where Abuja is in this country, not to talk of Turkey”, Dame Lawrence Nemi said.
The state education commissioner tasked the students to see themselves as future leaders and ambassadors of the country, and urged them to put in their best and make remarkable improvement that would promote quality education in the state, and the country in general.
“I wish you all the best in your endeavours towards this Presidential Debate competition that will take place in Turkey. You must work hard to earn higher scores in the competition, because, you are travelling out of the country to represent Nigeria,” she stated.
She further gave indication that the three students participating in the Presidential debate competition in Turkey would be offered scholarship to study in the new Model Secondary Schools built by the Amaechi led administration in order to strengthen their performances towards greater heights.
