PH Residents Seek Rehabitation Of Infrastructure
Residents of the Old Port Harcourt Township have appealed to the Rivers State Government to rehabitate existing infrastructure in the area to make the inhabitants enjoy the benefits of developmental projects in the state.
The Old Port Harcourt Township residents operating under the aegis of Port Harcourt Residents Forum, made the appeal during a visit to the member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Andrew Uchendu in Port Harcourt, recently.
Coordinator of the forum, Comrade Donald Hart, who spoke on behalf of the body, hailed the giant strides of Governor Amaechi in terms of infrastructural development in the state, adding that the old axis of Port Harcourt should be revisited in terms of upgrade of social amenities.
He said, “the name Garden City was as a result of the structuring, leisure, aesthetics and hygiene of the streets and layout from Borikiri in Town to Amadi Flat in Old GRA but noted that such recreation, and conservation were on a fast decline.”
Comrade Hart, called for the reconstruction of the Nembe/Bille/Bonny Jetty which he noted “has caused more embarrassment to our mothers and sisters, as they expose their under wears on a regular basis in their attempts to board speed boats to their destinations”.
The body also called for the completion of the Creek Road project that is a menace to the Old Port Harcourt Township residents, as well as establish more health facilities in the area to reduce the pressure on Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital.
The Forum which comprises senior citizens, also called for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing political crisis in the state.
In his response, Hon. Uchendu thanked the organization for the visit and lauded the members for their cohesion.
The federal lawmaker also promised to channel their request to the appropriate quarters.
