RSUST Plans Corporate Society Day
The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof. Barineme Fakae, has explained the rationale behind the corporate society day planned to hold on October 30 and 31.
Speaking at an interactive session with journalists, Tuesday, Prof. Fakae and noted that the university had taken various proactive steps to ensure improvement in the quality of education and service offered to the society and the need for corporate bodies to contribute to this project.
According to him, the university has made very remarkable progress as a centre of excellence stating that RSUST is now the leading e-university in the country.
We are the leading university as we have continued to set the pace in many areas. “Today” 13 years results are on-line and can be assessed from any part of the world. Strike is no longer an option for us in the settlement of grievances and people can made definite plan about their lives including when they are likely to graduate from school”, he said.
The vice chancellor restated the dream for the establishment of the first University of Science and Technology as well as the first State university in Nigeria, adding that the reforms and rehabilitation works have been carried out to meet the dreams of the founders.
He urged the media to key into the new vision of the university management by enlightening the public about the success recorded by the university in various spheres, disclosing that products of the university can compete effectively with their peers in other parts of the world.
Earlier, the representative of Eruka International, the organisers of the event Mr. Adonye Omubo-Pepple stated the need for the corporate world to collaborate with the university for their mutual gain and for the overall benefit of the society.
He said that as the primary beneficiaries of university products, the corporate world should sponsor research and content development in the universities.
Omubo-Pepple noted that inspite of its huge potentials to contribute to the growth of companies and business, the university system was yet to get the support to sustain the drive for excellence and disclosed that the Corporate Society Day will host major companies that will endow Professorial chairs, fund research projects and content development among others.
The event will feature a lecture on corporate partnership in developing educational curricular and research, luncheon and special awards as well as exhibition on petroleum and gas.
