Fadama Harps On Good Accounting Records
The Fadama III National Programme Unit has advised beneficiaries of the World Bank-assisted programme to always update their accounting records.
The Fadama III Monitoring Specialist, Mr Samuel Alabi, gave the advice on Thursday, when he led a technical assistance mission team to Fadama III project sites in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the accounting records of a cluster of goat farmers and black soap producers in Gbamfa community of Kuje.
He directed the project facilitator to always offer technical assistance to the beneficiaries.
“I am satisfied with the project work on ground but there is still more to be done in the area of record keeping. Most of the accounting records are not up to date.
“And as we all know, this is not good for a World Bank-assisted project,’’ Alabi said.
He also urged the project facilitators in the area to provide linkage to markets for the products of the beneficiaries.
In his remarks, Mr Benjamin Jibril, the project facilitator, promised to offer more technical assistance to the beneficiaries.
He observed that the technical assistance would help in making the project to have more impact on the livelihood of the people.
Jibril said that the Fadama III project had brought about an improved method of processing their farm produce.
However, in Rubochi, another community in Kuje, Alabi commended the beneficiaries, a cluster poultry and groundnut farmers, on good maintenance culture.
He noted that the maintenance culture was responsible for the high yield recorded in the farms.
The Fadama III project was conceived by the World Bank and the Federal Government as a follow-up to Fadama I and II.
The implementation period of Fadama III is five years – 2008 to 2013.
The objective of the project is to increase the income of users of rural land and water resources on sustainable basis and reduce poverty among the people while boosting food security.
