Edo Fire Panel Submits Report
The panel constituted by Edo Government to investigate the cause of the fire incident that affected the Ministry of Higher Education has advised against building petrol stations in residential areas
The Chairman of the panel, retired Justice Roland Amaize, gave the advice on Thursday in Benin when the panel submitted and presented their recommendations to Gov. Adams Oshiomhole.
He explained that the panel had observed that some ministries like the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development and that of Finance kept sensitive materials in their office premises.
Amaize said that at the end of the panel’s investigations, it made nine recommendations from 28 findings, and 13 memoranda, adding that 23 witnesses testified.
Responding, Oshiomhole said that the government would study the report and its recommendations with a view to forestalling future occurrences.
He said that the recommendations would be discussed at the state executive council meeting and appropriate white paper issued.
Edo Government on June 14 set up a four-member commission of enquiry to investigate the cause of the fire incident that razed the state Ministry of Higher Education on June 12, this year.
The governor had said that the investigation became necessary so as to know if the incident was a sabotage or due to a natural cause while also calling on the commission to proffer suggestion to forestall a reoccurrence.
