Abe Presents Recorders, Scholarship Awards To Journalists
The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe has provided 50 pieces of micro-tape Recorder sets to journalists from the Senatorial District.
Senator Abe also promised to sponsor nine persons from the area in the Institute of Journalism, Abuja, to increase the numbers of competent journalists to sustain a vibrant press that would enhance democracy in the state and the country in general.
Senator Abe declared this, Monday, during a meeting with media practitioners to redeem the promises he made earlier.
He described journalists as the key to development and agents of change in the society.
Senator Abe who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream urged journalists to be upright and transparent in the discharge of their assignment.
He noted however that, some journalists valued material things, adding that such attitude could make them compromise on the ethics and rules of the profession.
The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Opaka Dokubo thanked Senator Abe for the gesture.
He said that trained journalists would be an asset to the development of the societies and urged other lawmakers including those in the State House of Assembly to emulate Senator Abe to build an egalitarian society through journalists.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the South-East Media Practitioners, Mr Barivule Akpo thanked Senator Magnus Abe for his fulfilment of the promise earlier made and promised that the beneficiaries would make good use of the opportunity.
