Gunmen Kill Two Policemen In Taraba
The Police in Taraba State yesterday confirmed that gunmen killed two of its men on guard duty at the residence of expatriate workers at Tella village.
Police Commissioner, Mr Jibrin Olawole, confirmed that the two policemen were guarding the residence of PW Road Construction workers at Tella, Gassol Local Government Area were killed by gunmen on Wednesday night.
Olawole, who briefed the Acting Governor of the state in the Jalingo Government House on the security situation, said the gunmen who came in a Honda Car took away the rifles of the policemen after the incident.
He said the command had beefed up security around all sites where expatriates were executing various construction jobs across the state. On the recent Wukari mayhem, Oluwole described it as unfortunate and senseless.
He said the loss of lives was enormous and destruction of property was a senseless and wicked act, adding that “we need to re-examine ourselves and the attitude of our children”.
The commissioner said a policeman and his entire family were among those murdered in the crisis.
He said that out of the 125 suspects arrested and brought to Jalingo from Wukari, 54 were found with incriminating exhibits such as guns, cartridges, machetes and charms. Olawole, however, explained that the remaining 75 suspects would be released after further screening.
He expressed his resolve to rid the state of crime and criminal elements.
The commissioner warned that the police would be “very ruthless” with any person found formenting trouble no matter how highly place the person might be.
He solicited for information from the public to assist the security agencies to discharge their function properly. Meanwhile, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Yobe State yesterday said it had arrested four suspects for the alleged killing of seven vigilantee group members in Ngelzarma.
Our correspondent reports that the vigilance members were killed in Ngelzarma in Fune Local Government area in Yobe State on February 25.
JTF spokesman, Lt. Eli Lazarus, told newsmen that the security outfit intensified search for the assassins and arrested the four suspects.
He said that the JTF was committed to restoration of security and peace in all parts of the state. “The task force is determined to restore security and order in all parts of the state.
“We, therefore, solicit for cooperation from the public to assist the task force with useful and timely information,” he said.
