Bayelsa Acquires 16 Gun Boats To Fight Pirates
Bayelsa State Government has acquired 16 gun boats with state of the art equipment to checkmate the activities of pirates and other criminals along its water ways.
This is in addition to four specialised and well equipped sea crafted supply to the state earlier by the office of the Inspector General of Police.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Retired Lt. Benard Kenebai disclosed this in his office while briefing journalists on the readiness of the state to fight crimes in all parts of its territory.
Lt. Col. Kenebai said in addition to this, about 40 operational vehicles have been procured for the state’s internal security code named “Operation Doo Akpoo” established at the inception of the administration.
According to him, the outfit is living up to expectations going by the drop in crime rate, and the commendations received from members of the public.
Stressing that the outfit is part of the Bayelsa Integrated Security Services (BISS). Retired Lt. Col. Kenebai said that its activities seem to have concentrated more in the state capital of Yenagoa, gradually spreading to other parts of the state.
The Security Adviser further said that an advance technology has been acquired through which the operatives of “Doo Akpoo” responds to distress calls within shortest possible time, “even to those from neigbouring states”
He, however, said that the task of security agents would be less cumbersome if the public could assist by providing useful information to the apprehension of criminals and also show understanding in areas where there is shortcomings.
In another development, the Commissioner in charge of Science and Technology, Mrs Didi Technology Incubation Centre for a ward cluster project at Oloibiri in Ogba Local Government Area.
Mrs Watson-Iack who briefed Journalists in her office at Yenagoa, dislcosed that other sites proposed for similar projects includes Odi and Otuoke town, saying that the projects when operational would enable the people to fabricate and carry out maintenance of low technological machinery.
