Tincan Raises Revenue Profile
The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigerian Customs Services has raised its revenue profile with over 20 percent during the 2012 fiscal year.
Though the command did not meet its target, just like other commands, but there was a tremendous improvement over the previous year 2011 revenue collection.
The command collected N206, 411,920,416 in 2012, with its highest collection in February amounting to N19, 270 billion, followed by March N19, 003 billion.
The Customs Area boss, Comptroller Tunji Aremu, who disclosed this, at a press briefing in Lagos recently said, with this impressive performance, it is hoped that the 2013 fiscal year would be rewarding year for the command as its continued to strike for excellent trade facilitation.
While advising importers to be more patriotic in the duty payment, he stated that he has not come to frighten or fight the business community but that they should play according to the rule.
In anti-smuggling, the command’s Area comptroller, Aremu said the command recorded spectacular seizures of furniture, electronics, fridges, shoes, ladies bags and vehicles which were declared with false documentations. All these, according to him are under the detention of the command.
There is no doubt, since the assumption of duty by Comptroller Tunji Aremu, the command’s revenue profile has been on the increase when compared to previous years. It is also on record that the command which has been known for bad jobs like machine outside (MO) flying of containers and hacking of Senior Officers passwords for illegal releases has been stop.
