Gombe Inland Container Terminal Begins Operations
The proposed Gombe Inland Container Terminal will commence operations in
three months time, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council,
Capt. Adamu Abdu, has said.
Abdu made this known when he paid a courtesy call on Gov.
Ibrahim Dankwambo, in Gombe.
He said the council was in Gombe because of the State
Government’s request for the establishment of the inland container terminal.
He said the site for the project was excellent because it
was strategically situated on Bauchi and Kano Road.
“In no distant future, we will place advertisement on
national dailies, to invite interested private and foreign partners to apply
for consulting in the project,” he said.
According to him, before coming to Gombe, they seek
permission from all the relevant authorities for the smooth take-off of the
project through a private public partnership.
He explained that the idea behind the establishment of
the inland container terminal was initiated since 2002 by the previous
administration but could not progress due to some unavoidable problems.
“I thank Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo for resuscitating the
proposal which will ensure the kick-starting of the project.’’
Responding, Dankwambo said his administration would do
everything humanly possible to ensure the commencement of the terminal.
He added that Gombe would not only be an inland terminal
but an export processing zone considering the position of the state as the
heart of the North eastern state.
He commended the council for
the quick response and its effort in developing the country.
